Fourteen Locks Canal Centre and Cafe is a popular family attraction that is positioned on top of the Cefn flight, an engineering wonder of the industrial revolution that is located in the picturesque area of Newport. As a result of the support of the Heritage Lottery Funding two pairs of locks have been restored.
A family friendly location managed by the Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust (MBACT), with an abundance of history, activity trails, family events and education days running throughout the year. The canal towpath is part of the national cycle route 47 and the beautiful Sirhowy valley walk.
If you are a business or community group, the Cefn meeting room is available to hire, groups such as Art and Camcorder club meet on a regular basis.
The beautifully decorated Tea Room caters for all dietary requirements and serves delicious homemade food.
Our recently refurbished gift shop is full of unique, handmade crafts designed by local and talented artisans. Display boards are also available to hire on a monthly basis, for groups or individual artists.
Becoming a volunteer you help our growing team as part of the Canal Centre Future Skills Project, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery. The Trust and Newport City Council have also created The Canal and Countryside volunteer team, working in conservation around the locks and Allt yr yn nature reserve.
Once a month Newport City Council and the Fourteen locks lead a walk from the centre on Saturdays at 9.30am. Please click on event tabs on the left to find out information on our latest walk or other events on throughout the year.
Visiting the Canal Centre, or becoming a member, you are helping MBACT maintain this 200 year old waterway. It could not have been possible without all involved!
