Fourteen Locks to Caerleon

United Kingdom
Guidance
Distance
The length of the walk is 5.5 miles and is a relatively easy walk for the most part being relatively flat. We anticipate that it will last approximately 4 -5 hours with time to stop, chat, eat and admire the views. Walkers are advised that they should only participate if they are in good physical health. The walk leader(s) should be informed of any relevant health problems at the beginning of the walk. Return to the Canal Centre will be by service bus - firstly to Newport and then onto Fourteen Locks, so please remember to bring £3.20 in change for the fare - no change given by the bus company.
Appropriate clothing and footwear
Walkers are advised to wear clothing appropriate to the weather conditions. Due to the unpredictability of the weather it is always advisable to wear or carry a waterproof. The use of a walking stick is also recommended.
Food/Drink
Walkers are advised to carry a small bottle of water and to bring lunch. Alternatively, you may like to treat yourself to lunch at any one of a number of places to eat in Caerleon.
Paths
The route of the walk will follow the canal towing-path, a riverbank path, footpaths alongside roads and woodland paths. In several places walkers will need to cross roads that are sometimes busy. Please check the website or contact the Canal Centre for an update near the date of the walk. (Canal Centre Tel: 01633 892167)
Thanks to Walking Group Volunteers Ken and Les for checking this walk out. Great job!
