Gwent Ridge Walk

Monthly Walks
Saturday, 26 May 2018 09:30 - 15:00

This walk will start 9.30am, leaving from the Fourteen locks canal centre on Saturday 26th May

We will walk along the canal towards Ty sign, reaching Penrhiw road and our ascent towards Twmbarlwm. This flat linear route is 3.3 miles in total and will be the first get out point for people who wish to return, but, you will do so by yourself, without a leader. The trek up towards Twbarlum car park is steep, it definately gets the heart rate going and opens out the lungs.  Walking along the ridge you are open to the elements. The temperature drops dramatically, winds are stong and the heavens could open. The path is also muddy with uneven rocky terrain, you will have to concentrate on your foot placement throughout the lenght of the ridge but the views are spectacular! You can even make out Pen-y-fan but you don't need to drive an hour for amazing scenery! For this walk you MUST wear sturdy walking shoes,  waterproofs to hand and take extra warm clothing. Eventually we drop down into crow valley for a rest at The Queen Inn. Everyone will get a vehicle back from here to the centre. Defiantly take water and snacks, you're welcome to bring lunch or stop for lunch at the Queens Inn. There will be seperate vehicles for people who want to get straight back or people who want to stay for food. The duration of this walk is roughly 11 miles and can take between 4 - 5 hours depending on pace.
