welcome imageFourteen Locks Canal Centre is a popular family attraction that is located in one of the most picturesque areas of Newport and offers an active heritage experience for everyone.

It is situated at the top of the famous Cefn Flight of Locks, which is recognised as an engineering wonder of the Industrial Revolution. As a result of the generous support of Heritage Lottery Funding two pairs of locks have been recently been completely restored. The locks are fascinating, but you don't just have to be interested in history to enjoy your visit.

visitor centre

Walking, cycling, dog walking, feeding the ducks and generally keeping fit are all part of what's on offer nearby. The Centre, which is managed by the Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust (MBACT), is equipped to meet all your visitor needs.

The Dadford Tea Room caters for all dietary requirements and our Canal Boat Shop is a hit with everyone. We have a great range of books and gifts, including gifts for children at pocket money prices.

If you are a small business or charity needing a venue to meet we have the perfect meeting room available for hire at very reasonable rates.

By visiting the Canal Centre you are helping MBACT to maintain this wonderful facility for around 50,000 visitors a year. Make it your first choice when you visit Newport – you will not be disappointed.

If you have time to spare you may also like to volunteer to help out and join our growing team as part of the Canal Centre Future Skills Project, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery. Just call inside the Centre or telephone to find out more.

Information for organisers

If you are considering organising a walk here starting at the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre would you be so kind as to inform us before hand of the date. Our car park is not particularly large and if we get several walking groups on the same day it can become a health & safety issue. Again with prior notice we can email walking guides of the locks.

How to find the Centre

BY CAR:- The Fourteen Locks Canal Centre is situated off junction 27 of the M4 motorway. Take the High Cross Road and after approximately half a mile turn right in to Cefn Walk (signposted Fourteen Locks). Go over the canal bridge the Centre and its car park are on your right.

Parking at the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre is excellent and can accommodate a coach. Please note that the barrier to the car park is opened at 6.30am and locked daily at 4.45pm.

The following services run regularly from Market Square, Newport to Cwm Lane: 56, R1, R3 and R6.

There is very good access at the centre for wheel chairs, but the suitability of footpaths is limited.
